Shortly after 11PM last night, my husband took our sweet little pooch (a wonderful golden retriever who absolutely LOVES everyone) out for a walk before bedtime. About five or six houses down the road, a large dog belonging to a neighbor ran up and attacked her. To clarify, Charley was on a leash being walked by my husband. The dog got out of the house (according to the owner) when they were attempting to let out their other dog. He immediately ran after our dog and began attacking. First, he put his mouth around her neck. Then, he sunk his teeth into her hind leg - leaving two open wounds. My husband had a conversation with the owner, which he said started out okay. But, she became very defensive and got personal when he voiced concern about his (our) children's safety around such a dog (he simply asked what their plans were for a fence, etc.). Andy just left with Charley in tow...they are headed in for an exam of the bite wounds, and we will probably report the incident (it's tough, I think it is required that we report it and we are worried about the safety of our children - but goodness, we have only lived here a few months and already - conflict?). Anyhow, what a night - we could not calm ourselves down enough to relax for sometime. Andy is usually so completely cool and calm in any situation so I know that whatever happened on the walk was pretty bad (he said he was kicking the dog and yelling to get the dog off of Charley). Oh boy, she does seem to be okay - but I think we are all feeling the pain of such a bad experience. We love this little dog and she is so good and tolerant of our girls, how could she pose any threat or create any ill feelings in another dog?
Oh, we took pictures of the puncture wound - they are ugly, I will leave them out for now. Instead, here is our girl showing her loving side!
