We were running around the backyard on Sunday when we happened to notice this young bird (okay, this huge red tailed hawk) in the tree in our yard. The tree is a huge Douglas Fir and it is about 25 feet away from a huge maple. We figured the hawk was hanging out there because of it's great viewing location. At the base of our Maple tree is a couple of bird feeders filled with seed and frequented by chipmunks. There were four of them at the time that the hawk was with us. We love all of the life we are experiencing here - but... 1. we don't want the hawk to catch and eat his lunch in front of the girls, 2. the coyotes hanging out just across our fence is a little weird, and 3. the deer came into our yard and ate all of the strawberries off my ONE little strawberry plant. So, nature - take it easy on us. We are working on the yard and before long there will be a fence keeping some of you away.
