Winter Storm Watch:

Winter storm watch in effect from late Saturday night through sunday evening for the entire willamette valley including the portland metro area, as well as the lower columbia and interstate 5 corridor of southern Washington, The NWS in portland has issued a winter storm watch for snow, which is in effect from late Saturday night through Sunday evening. Cold air will move in behind the frontal system that is currently moving over the area, dropping temperatures to at or below the freezing mark by Sunday morning. With this cold air mass in place, a low pressure system dropping down the coast will begin to push moisture into the area. This pattern has great potential to generate significant snowfall accumulations down to the willamette valley floor. At this point, it appears 2 to 6 inches of snow are possible down to the willamette valley floor. In addition to snowfall, gusty winds will cause blowing and drifting snow particularly near the gorge and east metro area. A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

***this picture is from last December, at the snowpark on Mt. Hood. I can tell you that the information above really has made me hopeful. We get good snowfall on such a rare occurance here in Portland that it is incredibly exciting just to have the possibility around here. Of course, I do have three packages to mail tomorrow. But, I am happily anticipating the snow.
