Mom, did you make my fishy dress for me?

Sophie has been asking for a dress since the first day she saw this fabric. She loves the little fishies, and now they can finally love her too. She just happens to have a pair of orange tights to wear with it - because of all of the other orange she wears. I'm not sure why she has so much orange, but it might be due to the excess of pink running around here these days. Anyhow, I used the tutorial from House on Hill Road again and this time I made the straps fitted instead of tying at the shoulder. I do like the result. Oh, and one of the fishies is named Andrew.

Day 2, and a birthday

Well, here we are at day 2. This is also June 2nd, and it's my daughter Sophie's 2nd birthday. Of course, the image has to be special. So, Sophie is the subject and she is wearing a special birthday dress made by mom. It's using some adorable Japanese fabric I bought from Bolt in Portland (I just love Bolt). It is made following the great tutorial for this dress by House On Hill Road. I loved making it so much, I made a second one and left off the straps for a skirt. The only thing I had to do was adjust the measurements as she is a solid size 80 on a good day (she still only weighs about 21 pounds). I think the two inches I cut off the length was perfect for her. She kept pointing out the frogs on the fabric (she is a little froggy girl) and was excited to put on her birthday dress this morning. Definite mama love there!

Beach day

It was SO hot here for about one day. We decided to escape with a midday trip to the coast. It was perfect too - actually just enough of a chill to keep us all well protected from the sun - via our layers of clothing. I love how the beach is almost always nice and cool. Even in the worst of heat days.
